An
Overview
Okay! If you have made it this far, you must be
interested in what we do down here in sunny Florida. To best
describe our services, this section is split into three main parts, Rehab
& Therapy, Coaching, and Instruction.
Each section provides an overview of that division of our organization,
and should answer many of your questions. We have also included a
few pictures of the people participating, boats we use, and locations we
sail from.
At the bottom of this page, there is an Information
Request Form. If you would like us to mail you some
information about the program, or would like a telephone call from us,
please fill out the form and email your responses. We ask that you
complete all the blanks, as this will assist us in determining what type
of information to send.
Rehab
& Therapy
If you recently had an injury, or would just like to get
into the sport of sailing for the first time and you are concerned that
your disability might limit your sailing ability, this is the area for
you. With out Rehab & Therapy program, we do things
slightly differently from our normal Sailing Instruction.
Here, there is a Recreation, Physical, or Occupational Therapist that
attends each sailing session, and assists in transfers, adaptations, and
overcoming barriers. Of course, there is also a US Sailing
certified instructor present to provide the sailing instruction, and
instruction takes place in our standard Illusions and 2.4 mRs.

Instruction
This is a great program for people that are more
comfortable with their disability, or for able-bodied people that just
wish to sail a different type of boat. Courses are again run
by US Sailing certified instructors, and the 2.4 mRs and Illusions are
used for sailing. We offer Basic, Advanced, and other specialized
classes geared to what each group wants. Class sizes are between
three and six students, with no distinction between able-bodied and
disabled sailors.

Coaching
Hmmm... now we're getting fairly specialized! This
is a program that we started in 1996. The idea was born out of a
request to coach the US Paralympic Sailing Team in their Atlanta
campaign. Since then, we have been working with numerous athletes
in 2.4mRs and Sonars to develop their skills and prepare teams for
national and international racing. We are excited to be working
with athletes from around the country and are constantly scheduling home
and away regattas and training sessions to help these sailors build
their skills. If you are interested in training, racing, and
competing against able-bodied and disabled sailors around the world,
come join us! |
