Since early 1995, Sailing Alternatives has been working to provide access to the water for people with
special needs.
Bayfront Medical Center, located a short six blocks from the St.
Petersburg Sailing Center, provides therapists that assist people in
adapting to this exciting sport. Bayfront has been instrumental in
providing a method for people with disabilities to access the water, and
participate in a four-week, trial program to see if sailing is something
they would like to pursue. |
| Sailors may be monitored by a therapist, and taught basic
sailing skills be a US Sailing certified instructor. After completing
the SAlt program, sailors may continue to
sail the boats through Sailing Alternatives Community Sailing
activities.
Here, sailors return to the dock after a successful outing. Each
outing last for approximately two hours, based on each person's
endurance. We have some great programs coming up with Bayfront
Medical Center - here's an overview... |
