2001 Disabled Sailing Team Ranking System

Sonar:
Best two (2) of the following:

Disabled Midwinters (April)
Sonar Open event (any one event from the Sonar class schedule)*
Disabled Worlds (October)

* For open events, three crew members must be disabled, with an able-bodied sailor being allowed on board for foredeck work only.
All rankings follow the skipper. Ranking positions will be determined by the sum of points from each regatta, with the lowest number of points being ranked 1st. International skippers will be removed from the results for ranking purposes.

2.4 mR:
Best two (2) of the following:

2.4 mR Midwinters (March)
Disabled Midwinters (April)

Nationals - Newport, RI (July)
Disabled Worlds (October)

Ranking positions will be determined by the sum of points from each regatta, with the lowest number of points being ranked 1st. Able-bodied and international sailors will be removed from their positions for ranking purposes.

It is the intention of the Ranking Committee to move towards the following:
provide equitable opportunities for all interested sailors to be ranked;
specify three regattas each year which will be used to rank competitive sailors;
specify at least one (1) regatta each year as mandatory in the ranking system;
have all events occur between October and March, with a team named by April.
This will be possible for rankings in 2002 and beyond. In the transition phase, 2001 will be a short year, with the US Disabled Sailing Team being named in October of 2001. Look for the 2002 Ranking Systems to be released in July of 2001.
